THE IMPORTANCE OF STRETCHING
Stretching is of extreme importance in track because it will prevent needless
injuries and muscle tears. However, before you stretch, make sure to take a
light jog for 2-5 minutes to loosen up the body and get the blood flowing.
Without a warm up jog, muscles will be stiff and more prone to pulling or
tearing during the stretch. A warm up jog is crucial. Also, do not rush your
stretching. Take your time and stretch slowly to ensure a good warm up and no
injuries. Try not to make quick or bouncing motions when stretching, and if
anything is ever hurting then take a step back and decide if rest is maybe the
best thing for you. These stretches will be broken up into a runner's main body
parts: quadriceps, hamstrings and calves. Good luck.
